Astronomers discovered on 5th of juli that an asteroid may collide with Earth, 1st of Ferbuary 2019. Asteroid NT7 travels arround the sun in 837, orbitting between Earth and Mars. But once in a while the asteroid crosses Earth's orbit, and that may cause the colission in 2019. Though the asteroid can vanage a whole continent and change Earth's climate, the chance of hitting Earth is verry little. According to Dr. Donald Yeomans (NASA Jet Propulsion Labratory) 'uncertainties are large'. Ofcourse the whole thing changes if there's a lil kamikaze-alien inside hovering towards Earth... ;D

Maybe it will crash your bithday party? ;D ;D But seriously I don't think that there is too much of a reason to get concerned with several tens of millions of kilometres margin of error on its trajectory it could easily miss us on either side of the planet...

And even if it was gonna hit what could we do? Strap Ben Affleck to a nuke and launch it at the rock?

But seriously though, (just for a second) if one of the big ones hit earth there would be so little we could do to stop it. The significance of the impact could quite easily wipe us out, with drastic changes in environment and so on. Why worry till it is on a direct course to us?

I'm sure we will think of something in time. We have more than 15 years to think of something. Plus, I doubt it will hit us. If it does come after us I say we strap rockets on one side of the planet and move the Earth out of the way! Teej

Bennu, the chance it will hit is THAT small that we shouldnt bother about it. And noooo it wont wipe us out if. Itll only wipe out one continent. ;D Teej, when we'd move Earth, we are in even more trouble. Move Earth and you will get huge climatechanges.. possibly leading to enxtinction of mankind.

It is not the physical impact of the rock that could wipe us out, but the potentially severe climatic changes. All dependant on where it struck of course It is theorised that a large enough body hitting a land mass could cause something similar to a nuclear winter filling the skies with dust wreaking havoc with our eco-system. And again i quote the last part of my post. Why worry till it is on a direct course to us ?

It is one of the theories that caused the extiniction of the Dinosaurs....
So it could happen as Bennu says
