What are angels?
Angels are divine beings, pure in spirit and in goodness created by God. The Bible speaks of them as messengers and protectors administering God's will. They are bestowed with grace, love, valor and wisdom. They are believed to be powerful winged-spirits created in His image yet unlike humans, they are bodiless. They serve a significant purpose in the great order of things.
First hierarchy
These Angels have no direct dealings with man, but are absorbed in unending love and praise of God. They are seen by prophets near His throne.
Seraphim
They are considered the highest order, the one closest to the realm of God. They are beings of indescribable light and fire, their purpose is to praise God and emit love with their brilliant light. Though with their brilliance, other beings are unable to set their sight upon them. In Isaiah 6:1-3 of the Holy Bible, Isaiah speaks of the Seraphim as an angel with six wings, two wings to cover his face, two to cover his feet and the other two for flight.
Cherubim
Cherubims are often depicted as adorable baby angels, much like cupids on Valentine's day cards. But the Bible describes them as "powerful and majestic angelic creatures" and they are known to be Guardians and the keepers of Wisdom. They are the second of the highest Order of Angels. In Genesis 3:24, they are described as guardians of the gates of Eden, with flaming swords which turned every which way.
Thrones
Third in rank, they are symbolized as keepers of peace and justice. They are known as "Wheels" because they are deployed as charioteers around the Throne of God. They had four faces: man, lion, ox, and an eagle's face. They are covered with many eyes.
Second hierarchy
These are angels who govern the cosmic realm and the boundaries of heaven and earth.
