White horses defaced by activists

Two of England's most well-known monuments have been defaced by pro-hunting activists.
Campaigners for the Real Countryside Alliance say they painted the images which appeared on the white horses in North Yorkshire and Oxfordshire.

A rider in full hunt regalia was painted on the White Horse at Kilburn in North Yorkshire which dates from 1837

And on the Bronze Age image at Uffington in Oxfordshire, three white hounds and a rider were added.

The images are the work of members of the Real Countryside Alliance.

A spokesman for the RCA said they had become frustrated at a lack of action in getting the pro-hunting message across.

"All we want is ministers to take notice," he said.

In Kilburn, John Roberts from the local White Horse Association says they had managed to remove the new image without causing too much damage.

The Countryside Alliance has dissociated itself from the actions, adding that it "regretted" any damage which may have been caused.

Beautifuly done artwork. Question, does this in anyway harm/effect the ecologocial balance? Otherwise I find little wrong with it. Vandelism, just in my view, is destructive. In many countries (including here) wonderful works of art are depictited on the sides of buildings.

In Kingsport, there is a mural on the side of a building depicting our centiniel. Very cool and well done art.

Uhm.. no offence.. but those drawings were made a long long time ago.. by the ancient Kelts (correct me if im wrong bout the tribe ) so there IS something wrong with it when ye f*ck it up by adding lil men etc.

the vandals painted over the white horses that have been there for hundreds of years....ancient drawings etched on the ground and a bunch of mindless pricks do this to it.

Oh. I got the impression it was like the artwork in the middle east and so forth; ancient and had been there for quite a long time. And to my understanding that was made to communicate with alien life forms and so forth.
