I'm pretty sure that the quote means that since you are capable of independent thought, you do exist. It's one of thos Matrix questions, like how can you prove you exist.
I'm pretty sure that's what the quote means, I'm not possitive.

well im just guessing but may be it means that when you think....youre individual and you mean something...i dont think "being" means existence ...animals exist too but they dont think :)so i guess thinking is what makes you different ....theres thousands of people but not a single one like the other...well maybe im wrong...like i said im just guessing

It means.. a person thinks thus having their own mind.. they can make decisions, choose what they want to be.. make their own path..
And actually.. animals can think for themselves.. they know when they have to go to the bathroom, when someone comes home, how to survive, a mother teaches that to their children.. Don't you figure they need to think in order to do that?.. Okay.. sure it's part of their survival skills.. but you can't survive if you can't think!

Yeah, instincts are different than thinking to survive. If an animal is being chased, it runs away as fast as it can. If a person is being chased, they run away but think of ways to outsmart the person chasing them.
I do think that animals are capable of emotions, though, which means that they are capable of thinking.

animals have instincts and thats how they know when to go to the bathroom and when they're hungry and all that Then tell me, when was man (as human) an animal? When did it become man? When it -all of a sudden - started to think? Mehh.. it didnt -all of a sudden- started to think.. it always did. It díd became aware of itself, and therefor it ís.. in the way as it was meant in 'Cogito ergo dum'

ok...well lets forget animals...when you think of poeple we all have the ability to think...but the thing is some of us are so brainwashed that they just accept what others tell them...they dont have their own oppinion...in the phrase, when the say "think" they dont mean just "having brain"...it means being able to see things in your own way cuz everyone is an idividual...

...in the way as it was meant in 'Cogito ergo dum' lol.. that would be more something like 'Cogito ergo DUMB' hehehe I meant 'sum' ofcourse.. ;D
Anyway, I think (there we go) to 'think' is not only seeing things in your way (i.e. nót perception), its more closely to to reason than to just compare external impulses..

this confused me "Cogito, ergo sum" or "Cogito, ergo dum" ?
it's really cogito ergo sum...I think, therefore I am. But dude....I looked it up before and it comes up with alot of cogito ergo dum in latin...so whats the deal!? I like: Cogito cogito ergo cogito sum." I think that I think, therefore I think that I am ;D nicks fav: "Credo Elvem ipsum etian vivere." I think that Elvis is still alive. and "Diabolus fecit, ut id facerem" The devil made me do it!

dude I'm getting interested in these quotes now look what I found: "Sit simplex, stulte" Keep it simple, stupid. "Sit vis vobiscum" May the force be with you. "Spucatum tauri" Bull shit "Veni, Vidi, Nates Calce Concidi." I came, I saw, I kicked ass "Vescere bracis meis" Eat my shorts "Vir prudens non contra ventum mingit" Wise man does not urinate against the wind. "Prehende uxorem meam, sis!" Take my wife, please. "Plus! Perge! Aio! Hui! Hem!" More! Go on! Yes! Ooh! Ummm! "Paete non dolet" Don't worry, it doesn't hurt "Obesa cantavit." The fat lady has sung. "Braccae tuae aperiuntur." Your fly is open. "Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!" Beam me up, Scotty!
