most everyone here understands the prospect of the gene pool right? well if you don't try to follow anyways.
*this theory is extremely theoretical*
Is collonial expansion off planet not only wanted, but neccesary for the continuation of life. i'm not talking about nuclear war, and other such disasters, but more along the lines of genetic decadence. Humanity is rapidly becoming more and more tailored for only earth conditions. our bodys are changing and adaptiong more to earth conditions. it could be becoming harder and harder to adapt to off planet conditions. adapt too much and you lose variation, lose variation and we die of crib death. Look at the the rising number of birth defects and genetic diseases. Its also already happening with plants. wever tailored grains so much that the so called "super grain" is all thats left. genetic enginearing is costly and has little yield right now for a world wide population if needed. the answer. start another gene pool. start respective population on amrs and the moon. once these habitats become self sufficent, they will begin producing other variations. most likely harder and more able for menial/physical work. cross these populations with the core earth gene pool and these variations are absorbed and jump start our own gene pool. now we find another earth like planet. combine the two gene pools and again the variations increase and enhance humanities chance of surving a new variation needing disater. now well medical aid could slow down this loss of variations, it can't defend against everything. another factor is the declining number of babies being born. Earth is begining to get worn out. start outer colonies and you take the load off earth shoulders, and allow the planet time to renew the best it can. some thing akin to what i'm saying can be found in the link below
