Like Freya I believe that animals killed for sport or fun is barbaric.. for food is fine as long as we make sure we dont kill every last one of them and make sure that the life that they have is as kind as possible..
Yet I believe that there are times when killing wild animals is the kindest thing to do.. When an animal is severely hurt and will die in agony with no chance of recovery I belive that ending its suffereing is the right thing to do...

I agree that for food it is ok. It's just the food chain and is natural for us to do. But to kill just to see if you can, that's kind of sick.

sick? isn't it what cats do? and many many other animals in the animal kingdom??
hey im the last dude in the universe to support any kind of animal killing or misuse but caliming there is "no killing for sport" or "sickness" in nature is just being naive...
the whole sanctity of life thing was started by humans... not nature. thats something to remember... and think about in the same line of thought in which we think about humans doing all kinds of horrible things to animals and nature. (and we do... damn humans suck ass...) There is nothing unnatural in killing, pointless killing or killing for sport.

I never said that wasn't sick. But we weren't talking about other animals, we were talking about humans.

so.. when humans kill to see if they can, its murder.. and when animals do the same we'd call it instinct? Chimps know murderers too

Actually, if you think about it..before humans came along, everything was fine, the circle of life was going as it should be, the food chain was normal.. the animals stayed where they belonged. The true term of murder, kill for fun, barbaric and all those other definitions were only created when humans were made. The animals only started getting out of hand when they felt threatned by the humans over their territory. In history, they say that the first living "creature" was humans .. well.. I highly doubt that... animals were here LONG before us.. and yet.. we decide to make them inferior to us? How moronic! I think the animals should be left alone, let them build their security again and for god sake, leave their territory ALONE!!! If we would leave them alone, they wouldn't bother us.. we wouldn't get "breaking news" about some animals that disrupted the town.. they have every right to do that.. why? Because we do it to them every single day of their lives. I believe the biggest war isn't with the us and iraq.. I think the biggest war is the one that has been going on for AGES.. the war of humans vs animals.. and it never will end.. unless someone smartens up.. which I VERY highly doubt will happen..
We have no right to complain about the animals invading our place..we've done it to them ten times over, if not more.
Just think about it, will you? And you'll see that I'm right. If the humans have rights.. animals should too!

Also, animals don't really kill to see if they can. They will kill to take control of a group of animals, or to drive off other animals to keep their territory.
Look at it this way. When I lion tries to take over a pride and drives off the other lion, it doesn't kill the cubs off to see if it can. It kills them off to get rid of the weaker lion's traits. So there is a reason for them killing.

Then explain to me, why do maffiapeople kill out the other maffia-familly members?
And besides that, chimps DO kill for fun. Not only because of their teritorial behaviour.
Freya, when did humans exactly came along? Wasnt there a time that humans only killed for food, too?
To kill for any other kind of reason than for food is wrong, plain wrong. You'd say.
The dominant lion can chase the other (less) copulent lion away, it doesnt nescesarilly HAVE TO kill the other lion. But it has to kill the other lion (and cubs) to preserve his bloodline...
This kind of reasoning is typically human reasoning, i.e., with reason ( ) and therefor you cannot say killing is wrong, neither can you say its good. It depends on the situation.

yes.. at one time, they were.. but they turned.. I mean.. they take it as a sport now, not survival. That is what irritates the heck out of me. It makes me mad!

yes yes humans suck... i agree... and humans consider themselves superior to all animals becuse they are able to kill them. and for the last time ANIMALS DO KILL FOR FUN! just look at your cat/dog. they ENJOY KILLING little things that move!!! There is no justice in nature... animals DID become extinct BEFORE human beings came... we "just" accelerated the rate... and Freya who ever said humans were the first living creatures??

That's true Cat, but that can be described as instinct and as a way to get food. What CAN'T be described as instinct is humans slaughtering other humans or animals for fun.
