The term humanoid refers to the fact that these paticular races are all bipedal. As to why they are, maybe its universal that all succesful races evolve in this manner.

yes, but chickens dont have human characteristics, these particular races do. They can reason, they are self aware, they have technology, but who knows perhaps the reptilian races actually hatch their young.
