so without further ado
*drumroll*........
My topic! What do you think will be the next discovery to change warfare
and what do you think will be the next discovery to change the way we live?
my answers.. i think that small scale Armour will begin changing warfare vert soon. Lasers and microwaves ar enive, but you can't ignore the fact that a working defensive exoskeleton may be in use as soon as 2013! I don't see bold mechs striding across a battlefield anytime soon though. see this -> www.paranormal.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10827 , topic for my reason why.
I mean you just cna't get past the point that the common everyday grunt is invaluable. When was the last time you saw a squad of tanks sneak into a enemy building and rescue someone. However, the grunt is vulnerable. Thats where Exo's come in. It dosne't have to be anythign big, but these ar emy three ideas
1-the body suit, something similar to the Future warrior suit or perhaps just a small skeleton worn on the body, Dosen't evne have to ahve mounted wepaons, the exoskeletons i've seen have almost always had the hands free to grab. This type of Exo would be very usefull and supringly easy to make. It dosne't evne have to be a full suit. Maybe just enough to help enhance the wearer.
2-the defensive suit. I see this as somehting similar to The Powerloader from Aliens, the D-Mechs(cna't remember the real name) from "Halo:Fall of Reach", or the Mechs in "Matrix:Revolutions". This mech is pretty much a suit of amour with motors. Mounted wepaons, and it dosen't even have to be very mobile. Just enough to defend structures and groups. Mounted weapons, problly a Machine gun of some kind and maybe some missles(you would need to defend the wearer, and those nearby, against backblast first) The only draw back is thta it would need power from a nearby instillation(the same problem that made the D-Mechs in the Halo book unusable)
3-the Tank. This is the least likelly as it would only work if the first two kinds of Exo had been invented and put into use. THink of the Suits from Starship Troopers(the Book ones, the movie left them out) THese suits were amoured as all hell, fully mobile, and devestating a collum of tanks with their fists. The things were so damned destructive they had to space their men hundred of feet away from each other to keep them from inadvertably killing each other with their weapons. However, instead of the Atom Bomb slinging Uber-suits of Starship troopers, i see somehtign scaled back and closer to our reach. I liked the reverse feedback though, that idea could have potential.
now for my everyday life invention. I say holograms. A isreali scientist alreayd invented the infared key board in the lat 90's, and holograms are already used in some aspects. But i'm tlakign about full fledged SCi-Fi movie Holograms. they have a lot of cool uses and the technology needed is already in place. It's just waiting to take off.
