Gravity is a weird thing. It keeps Earth from falling apart, bounds us to it. Our weight is dependant on gravity.. but yesterday, a tricky question played my mind; how much would you weigh in -if that was possible- the exact middle of Earth (i.e. in the core)

The net gravity within a hollow sphere is zero. If you picture the earth as many hollow spheres (or shells), each within a larger one, as you get closer to the center you're within more and more 'hollow' spheres. At the center of the earth, there are no more spheres below you and you are truly at the center of the sphere. Net gravity is zero. Like a ride on the Vomit Comet.
Too bad you couldn't stand in the center--weightless or not, you don't want over 10^24 kg of rock bearing down on you.

Course ye cant stand in the middle of Earth.. quite odd that you -if it wás possible- would have 0 weight, but do have mass.. Odd because that would mean things are not bound by gravity at ALL.. but by a different force

but you would have to me a volumeless dot to stand in the very center
meaning that the only way u cant have any weight is to not have any volume.
which... makes sense

Nonono.. you cant have wieght without MASS.. you cán have a vacuüm.. which is also a volume, with nothing

what??
i know that everything has volume and mass
the only way to have no weight is to be in the middle of a star
the only way of doing that is having no volume
which is illogical

No it isnt that illogical. check; Volume is nothing more than measurements in height, width and length. A vacuum is bound to it bcuz its physically bordered. And therefor a vacuum does have a volume but no mass. But you cannot have NO mass without volume tho... bcuz volume will always exist.
Mmm..

Hmm actually that made me realize that there is NO opposite of volume...

very good point!
so i change my claim to "no matter can have no volume"
still a very good and interestin point...
oh and the center of a blackhole has no volume... but does it have mass? hhmmm... who knows...

Well, new point of view: IF you would be albe to "stand" in the middle, that would mean that there is a small space there cuz otherwise I would not fit in there. Well, if that space was empty, it would mean that all gravity is coming from the rest of the core. The result of this is that everybody on the "outside" has gravity towards the core. That means, that when you are in the core, you will find yourself being forced to the outside. Well, since the outside is everywhere, you will simply explode due to the G-forces in all directions. Well, "don't try this at home"

Well the vacuum would explode ye, tho the heavy gravity would implode you.. so eventually, depending on what 'force' is bigger, you explode very very slowly ;D Or the opposite ofcourse ;D
