I find this story extremely interesting and finally did the research on it. Tell me what you think.
Winchester Mystery House
In 1884, Sarah L. Winchester began a 38-year construction project. It was a Victorian mansion, designed by Winchester, who was the Winchester Rifle heiress. It is thought to have 160 rooms and had many modern heating and sewer systems, gaslights, and three working elevators. It used to be seven stories tall but is now four after several earthquakes. While on construction, Miss Winchester kept 22 carpenters working year around, 24 hours a day.
She was very superstitious about everything. Legend says that she either designed the house to confuse spirits or to trap them. Countless staircases lead nowhere. Closets lead to blank walls. Trap doors. Doors that opened to steep drops to the lawn below.
Sarah was obviously intrigued by the number 13. Nearly all windows contain 13 pains of glass. Walls have 13 panels. Every staircase but one has 13 sections. The only one that doesn’t is a winding staircase with 42 steps that should go up about 3 stories but only god up about 9 feet. The reason is because the steps are only 2 inches high.
The building is so confusing that it isn’t even known for sure if there are 160 rooms. There are also some tales of ghosts haunting the place. People have heard footsteps, banging doors, mysterious voices, windows that bang so hard they shatter, cold spots, strange moving lights, and doorknobs that turn by themselves.
