The Face Of Mars
Mars has fired the curiosity and imagination of mankind for thousands of years. From the times of the Greek god of war, Ares, to our current spaceage Mars has continued to fascinate. In the late 1800s, the "discovery" of "canals" on Mars captured the attention of thousands and launched a search for intelligent life on Mars. One hundred years later, after the canals have been widely dismissed, a mysterious "face" and strange pyramid shapes spark discussions again. For the last thirty years unmanned spacecraft have been sent to explore this unique planet. Though no life, intelligent or otherwise, has been found some scientists speculate that primitive life may at one time have existed. Future excursions, possibly manned, are planned for the future.

Weren't people saying the face looked like Jesus?? I don't really think it resembles him that much at all. I'll agree it resembles a face, but to say it looks like someone is kind of streching it.

I could probably go out right now and find a donkey sitting on Santa's lap in the clouds. "Aliens must be telling us something." Give me a break.

So Jimbo do you think that we are alone in the universe?

By alone do you mean intelligent beings, or micro-organisms? I do think there is a slight possibility that there are micro-organisms somewhere out there, but so many criteria have to be met for intelligent beings to survive I don't think they are a possibility. And I definitely don't think any "aliens" are visiting Earth.

compare the chances of the existence of intellegnt life with the number of stars out there...
its really not as low as ya think

First off, if we're looking for intelligence to evolve we need a terrestrial planet that has land (not all oceans). It needs to be in the habitable zone from it's star and its star must be relatively small, not a giant or supergiant. Both Mars and Venus are in the habitable zone from our own sun, so just being in the habitable zone is not enough. New studies seem to show that having a large gas giant at a few AU from the star (or around Jupiter's distance) may be needed for life to be able to get a significant toehold in the first place. There must be certain safeguards to protect these organisms as they grow and evolve (like our atmosphere and the O3 that protects us from UV rays). Now, assuming that out of the quintillon+ stars out there at least a few billion have these conditions I'd say life would evolve on between 10% and 60% of them. And if these organisms manage to survive and have significant challenges presented to them as to induce them into evolving intelligence, then I'd say (if we look at this optimistically) then there could be billions of intelligent species at one time in the Cosmos. This assumes that these species advance far enough to acquire an understanding of nuclear energy. When this happens they reach a critical moment...do they destroy themselves or triumph? If we look at this with a bleak attitude then I'd say it's just as likely that we are, at the moment, the only intelligence species in the Cosmos.

Jimbo, do you think that we'd be the only living being in this entire galaxie?? I think that is rather well, sorry to say.. stupid. why would we be put here.. on earth if there's so much out there? I highly doubt we're alone.. it just would not make sense!!! Think about it! Honestly!

I did yes.. just to me, sounds like you're saying that we're the only intelligent being.. but there must be others out there. Is what I'm saying. I can be wrong aswell.. it's just my opinion..

No I cant. Neither can you we are. Problem here is we're stuck; none of us got any proof, but still, without having proven the oposite you ask for prove... not good.

You can't prove a negative, which is what you are asking me to do. It's impossible.
