well teh chick didn't hatch all fluffy and cute as they do now-a-days...they evolved from lizards...slowly...so the process didn't happen all at once...the egg hatched and a lizard was a lil different, then that creature laid eggs, had something less lizard like....etc...etc...etc...
animals don't care what their babies look like, as long as they smell like their kids it doesn't matter...so the less mutated parents taught the children and so on and so on until the chicks started changing certain habits and tecahing those habits to the next....etc...

actully being the dope i am i forgot about evolution... duh!.... anyhow back then it didn't matter what lil baby thingys look like, but now the theory about why baby mammals are so frigging cute is to encourrage there parents to keep em'.... ;D
